Prisoner
This World is cruel my love,
A hostile, untamed landscape where
Men fight men to satisfy their hunger
And even after chewing and
tearing the flesh,
as their saliva
drips
from their lips,
there is always something,
Something more.
I wish to prepare you for danger,
but it is impossible to tell you that you
cannot take risks.
I wish to protect you from poisonous words,
Once the seed is buried, I cannot shield
you from its inevitable growth
but yet still I cannot forbid you
From watering the plant.
I wish to be there for you,
your shoulder to cry on and your
hope when you need it,
but yet again
I cannot force you to want me.
I wish for you to be you.
I wish to see you defy me,
that one day you have the courage
to say “no”.
I wish for you to be the light in the darkness and the voice in the silence.
I wish for you to unchain yourself,
from being held captive in the prison that we call life.

A hauntingly refreshing and wise voice. I enjoyed this poem.

“Prisoner" is pretty deep, honestly. It's like, she's talking about life being tough, but she still wants to protect and empower someone she cares about. The way she describes things, like the world being this wild place, and words being kinda poisonous, it's kinda cool. And I like how she's all about letting that person be themselves and finding their voice. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! Beautiful Antara! Love the poem!
I have read it 10 times now and each time I read it, the more I fall in love with the poem.
Superb poem Antara! I felt the care and the love come through so effectively and warmly.
